The Program

The application process for The Ladder Program is made up of three parts: the application, the letters of recommendation, and a telephone interview. Spending a semester in Los Angeles is a rigorous academic and work experience, and only the highest caliber of student will be accepted into this program.

Enrollment is limited, so students are encouraged to complete the application process as quickly as possible before the April 1st deadline.

To apply, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • be a junior, senior or graduate student at the time of the program
  • be enrolled in a four year college or university in the greater Salt Lake City area (including Ogden, Logan and Provo)
  • have a 3.0 or higher grade point average. If a student has a 2.5 - 2.99 grade point average, that student may still apply, but must submit a third letter of recommendation from a professor. Any student below a 2.5 grade point average is not eligible to apply to The Ladder Program.

A deposit of $500 is due with the application. If a student is accepted into The Ladder Program, that deposit will be put towards the Program Fee. See cost for more details. If a student is not accepted into The Ladder Program, that deposit will be fully refunded.

Application
Download the PDF file, print it out and follow the instructions to complete the application. The application also includes forms and instructions for the letters of recommendation. We highly recommend that students send the application and the letters of recommendation together.

Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are needed to apply to The Ladder Program. One letter should be from a professor or college instructor and the second from a current or former employer. Additional letters of recommendation can be sent, though only two are necessary if a student has a 3.0 or higher grade point average.

A third letter of recommendation is needed if a student's grade point average is between 2.5 and 2.99. This third recommendation should be from a professor or college instructor, so there will be a total of two letters of recommendation from professors or college instructors and one letter from an employer.

Telephone Interview
Each student applying to The Ladder Program will be contacted by the Executive Director for a telephone interview. This interview will take approximately 30 minutes. Instructions for this telephone interview will be emailed to each student once the application and letters of recommendation have been received.

Acceptance
Students will be notified by mail of their status - if they have or have not been accepted into The Ladder Program - no later than May 1. Acceptance into The Ladder Program is done on a rolling basis, so students may be notified earlier.
